The trees grew well in 2018, despite the terrible drought. We were disappointed, however, with the low level of fruit produced even though there was plenty of blossom. Having sought advice from the “experts” we have planted five new crab apple trees, which commercial orchards use to boost pollination success.
We also hope to plant a new hedge screen on the border with the Wildflower Meadow to help shelter blossoms from the wind. The new daffodils were a great success, and we hope to see cowslips in the orchard for the first time, having scattered seed there last year.
