This year we have been very excited to discover that we have Great Crested Newts in our pond! This makes it a very special place indeed, and confirms how important it is to create sanctuaries like this for wildlife.
We also spotted a frog for the first time, and a moorhen has nested under the platform. The young moorhens have benefited from another new addition – the “island” (created from a pallet, with turf on top), which has provided a safe place away from predators.
We have recently added a second, larger platform. The kingfisher visits regularly, and the swallows continue to enjoy hunting insects here.
