Meadow 2011

In September 2011, we spent a weekend working on the last major project financed by the Lottery grant: the wildflower meadow.

First, all the grass was cut and raked off, then the whole area was scarified using a hired machine, and finally a specialist native wildflower seed mix for clay soil was broadcast.

The area had a patchy start, with excessive amounts of bristly ox-tongue, but there are promising signs for 2014, with a good number of cowslips, and signs of trefoil and cranesbill emerging.
